There are many distractions on the road, including construction or hazardous and drunk drivers. Several cities and states throughout the country have even banned texting or talking on the phone while driving. A new application for the Android phone now gives drivers a way to automatically silence incoming text messages, and/or phone calls while driving. The “Drive Safe” app can also send a text message reply to callers and texters to let them know you are on the road.
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show 5,870 people died in 2008 from car accidents, and more than 515,000 others were injured. 28% of all accidents in 2008 were caused by drivers between the ages of 18 and 29 that were texting while driving.
